The Tusentrappene ( German  stairs of 1000 steps ) is a set of stairs in the Norwegian city of Ålesund .

It is located in downtown Ålesund on the island of Nørvøy and leads from the western end of Lihauggata between houses Kongens gate 6 and 8 down to Kongens gate.

Although the staircase has 1000 steps in its name, it actually only consists of 53 steps. The name is likely to have originated as a derisive name for the predecessor complex, which rose steeply in one piece with 39 steps, probably up the hill. The current staircase was built in the second half of the 1930s. It leads twisted in several sections up the hill.

At the beginning of 2009 the Norwegian broadcaster NRK chose the Tusentrappene as monument of the month. However, there is no formal registration as a monument.
