Connemara with the Twelve Bens on the horizon

The Twelve Bens or Twelve Pins ( Irish Na Beanna Beola ) are a picturesque mountain range in Connemara in western Ireland . From the top of the 730 meter high mountains there are spectacular views over the surrounding land. Visitors especially appreciate the solitude beyond the tourist centers of Ireland. The mountain range of sharp-edged weathering quartzite rocks is connected to the Maumturk Mountains on the other side of Glen Inagh (Irish Gleann Eidhneach ).

Usually the mountain peaks are referred to by the Irish names ( Anglicized forms are given in the brackets):

  • Binn Bhán (Benbaun)
  • Binn Chorr (Bencorr)
  • Binn Dubh (Bencollaghduff)
  • Binn Bhraoin
  • Binn Doire Chláir (Derryclare)
  • Binn Gabhar (Ben Gower)
  • Meacanach
  • Binn Fraoigh
  • To Chailleach
  • Binn Breac (Benbrack)
  • Binn Leitrí (Benlettery)
  • Binn Glean Uisce (Benglenisky)
