Twip

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A twip is an Anglo-American unit of length and denotes the division " TW entieth of an I nch P oint", ie 1/20 point = 1/1440 inch .

The twip is an extremely fine unit of measurement:

1 twip = 17.6389241667372 μm
1 mm = 56.6928 twip

The Twip unit is used in calculations of fonts and graphics in the computer sector, for example in the Graphics Device Interface (GDI) of Microsoft's Windows operating system , in the Windows Metafile (WMF) file format , in the Rich Text Format (RTF) or in the AFP print data format .

It should be noted here that the Twip, as it is e.g. B. is used in the parameters of Microsoft Windows, can also have other values. These depend on the print resolution. The above Formula applies to the case of 72 dpi. Here a point has the size 1/72: 1/20 * 1/72 = 1/1440

In the case of 96 dpi, 1/1440 inch * 96 dots per inch results in a size of 1/15 dots.
