Himetric

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Himetric is a unit of length used in computers that is independent of screen resolution .

definition

A himetric is a thousandth of a centimeter , i.e. 0.01 millimeter . The number of himetric units in a line of, for example, 10 centimeters is 10,000. The resulting line that appears on a screen is four inches long, regardless of the size of the video display area. Himetric thus converts every logical unit into a value of 0.01 millimeters. The positive x-coordinate is set to the right and the positive y-coordinate to the top.

Benefit and example of use

As a rule, whole number values are sufficient to store lengths specified in Himetric. Among other things, this avoids the rounding errors that occur with floating point numbers . The Navision software consistently uses Himetric for the positions and dimensions of screen elements. However, the name Himetric is not explicitly mentioned.
