Line 1 of the Shiraz metro

The Shiraz Metro is the metro of the city of Shiraz in Iran .

The city's first metro line opened on October 11, 2014. It was 10.5 km long and ran between the Ehsan station in the north of the city and the Namasi station in the city center. In August 2017, the route was extended by a further 10.5 km from Vali-e Asr to Shahid Dastqejb, although initially only two of the seven stops were opened to the public.

A second, 15 km long stretch is under construction. The entire project for the Shiraz metro currently includes six lines. The plans for the third, 10 km long route are in place. The rest are in the planning stage. Most of the tunnel sections were and are being built using the cut-and-cover method, but the tunnels also have to be bored for around 35% of the route network.

The lines are electrified with 1500 volts direct current in overhead line operation .

Operation runs on five-car trains manufactured by the China CNR Corporation Limited and by the Iranian Rail Industries Development Co (IRICO) ( Persian ایریکو) were equipped. IRICO will assemble the other vehicles in Iran using parts supplied from China .
