UKK walking test
The UKK Walking Test (or 2 km walking test) was developed in 1991 by Oja & Laukkanen at the Urho Kaleva Kekkonen (UKK) Institute for Health Promotion Research in Tampere / Finland. The walking test can be used to determine physical fitness and maximum oxygen uptake (V02max).
In order to determine the walking index, the test person must cover a two-kilometer, flat walking distance in the shortest possible time. It is not allowed to walk, ie one foot must always be on the ground. The heart rate is measured immediately afterwards. The walking time, age, gender and the heart rate measured directly after the 2 km are included in the calculation of the walking index.
