from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

UNIGIS is a worldwide network of universities with the common goal of offering practice-oriented postgraduate studies in the field of geographic information systems (GIS) as internet-based distance learning courses.

As a founding member of the UNIGIS network, the University of Salzburg has been offering German and English-language UNIGIS distance learning at the Salzburg location since 1993 , with German-language distance learning being managed and supervised from Salzburg. The courses offered at the Salzburg location are accredited by the Austrian state accreditation agency AQ Austria.

Two study models or degrees are offered: UNIGIS professional (certificate) and UNIGIS Master of Science.

UNIGIS professional
is a one-year, practice-oriented course and is aimed at everyone who wants to acquire comprehensive, application- related knowledge in geoinformatics in a short period of time . Successful completion of the course is documented with the title "Academic Geoinformatics Scientist".
UNIGIS Master of Science
This two-year postgraduate distance learning course provides a sound basis for the design and use of geographic information systems (GIS). After graduation, graduates are awarded the academic degree "Master of Science (GISc)" and are particularly qualified to manage projects, working groups and departments.
Club UNIGIS
the graduate network Club UNIGIS provides professional and personal networking beyond the end of the course. The community that has grown over the years now includes several hundred graduates from all over the German-speaking area. The annual AGIT symposium is ideal for personal exchange.
