The team achieved the greatest success with winning the championship title of the 2nd Bundesliga North in the 2012/13 season. From the 2013/14 to 2016/17 season, the UWR team Rostock 071 played in the 1st Bundesliga North.

history

1996–1999 (foundation)

At the end of the 1990s, individual groups developed in various Rostock diving clubs that were looking for an alternative to normal training. After underwater rugby balls were purchased in the clubs, the athletes initially played on hula hoops due to the lack of goals. After word got around that this development was taking place in several diving clubs, the players initially agreed to train together. In 1999 the TSC 1957 Rostock e. V., who is particularly active in fin swimming and orientation diving, handed over an invitation for the Mauritius Cup. This UWR tournament of the Bundesliga team of Submarin Pößneck was held with a joint Rostock team, consisting of players from TSC 1957 Rostock e. V. and the TC "Octopus" Rostock e. V., visited. Having arrived without any precise knowledge of the rules, the team lost all their encounters and said goodbye with a goal difference of 0:71 goals, which led to the team's later name.

2000–2010 (average in the 2nd BL North)

In the following season, the Hanseatic townspeople registered for play in the Bundesliga North and started in the 2nd Bundesliga North. Here, however, the team had to quickly realize that they still have a lot to learn in order to survive against the other teams. With only 2 goals and 8 lost games, the Rostock team ended up in last place. In the years that followed, the Rostockers often had to serve as the league's goal supplier, but were always able to win individual games. In addition, the Rostockers also competed in various tournaments, including the East German Championships, the Braunschweig Lions Cup and the Kiel Sprat. In the 2002/2003 season, the German Underwater Rugby Championship was held in Rostock, where the team has recommended itself as a very good host. In the 2005/06 season, the Hanseatic townspeople were able to break away from the basement zone of the league for the first time and reached 4th place. The best season of this decade was the 2008/09 season, when numerous former swimmers joined the team and a second team played in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional league. In the 2nd Bundesliga, the syndicate reached third place in the 2nd BL North and only just missed the relegation place on the last matchday. With the participation of a team, 10 Rostock players and two Greifswald athletes were able to secure a 5th place in the German U21 Junior Championship in Dossenheim near Heidelberg. In the following year, the Bundesliga team fell back to the lower ranks.

2011 - today (promotion and relegation)

After the juniors had been successfully integrated into the team, a rapid storm developed that put the Rostock on the road to success in the following years. After a relegation place was awarded on the last match day in the 2011/12 season, the team dominated the 2nd Bundesliga in the 2012/13 season and achieved promotion to the 1st Bundesliga North for the first time, unbeaten with eleven wins and one draw . Assuming that they would be relegated immediately, they showed that they were able to play with most of the teams, and so after the second day they led the table of the first division. With 5 wins and one draw, they placed in midfield at the end of the season and had nothing to do with the relegation ranks. In the 2015/16 season, the team had to struggle with many failures and could only reach the relegation place. But since Hanover did not play, Rostock remained without a fight in the first Bundesliga. In the following season, relegation was not achieved. In the 2017/18 season, the SG returned to the second division after four years in the first division. After the team had achieved promotion to the 1st Bundesliga in the 2017/18 season, the team decided to forego promotion in order to build new players in the second division. In addition, a regional league coast for beginners was launched in the 2018/19 season to bring new players to the level of Bundesliga operations.

Teams

1st team

The first team started in the second Bundesliga North from 1999 to 2013 and took part in the national cup in Berlin in 2011. Here the Mecklenburgers could only take the last place. After the second division was dominated by the Rostockers in 2012/13, the team rose to the 1st Bundesliga North.

2nd team

In 2008 and 2009 it was possible to put a second team into a national league team, which finished second behind the team from TC Uni Gryps Greifswald in the 2008/09 season. This league was dissolved again in 2010 due to a lack of participation. The players of this team were increasingly used in fun tournaments in the following years to introduce them to the first team. In the 2013/14 season, young players were integrated into the team of the TC Stelle for the first time in order to gain experience in the second division. In the 2018/19 season, the old idea of a lower class league was brought back to life in order to better introduce a large number of new athletes to the Bundesliga level, a regional league coast was opened with teams from Lower Saxony, Bremen, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg- Vorpommern are eligible to play.

U21 team

With the arrival of some young athletes, together with some athletes from the TC Uni Gryps Greifswald, a U21 team could be put together, which competed in the German Junior Championships in Dossenheim (2008). Here the youngsters achieved fifth place.

State championships Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

In addition to the Bundesliga operation, the players in the syndicate take part in the state championships in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania for their home clubs. The championship has been played since 2007.

Rostock Griffin

Once a year the team organizes a one-day fun tournament, the Rostocker Greif. This competition is usually based on the vacation dates in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and therefore takes place in June or July. Due to this appointment directly after the season, the relegation of the Northern League is regularly played out in Rostock. The previous placements were:
