Piotrkowska Street

The Piotrkowska ( Petrikow Street ) is a street in Lodz , and with over four kilometers, one of the longest shopping streets in Europe.

It stretches meridionally in a straight line from Plac Wolności (Freedom Square) to Plac Niepodległości ( Independence Square ). This street was a central axis around which the whole city was built. The Ulica Piotrkowska was originally intended as a traffic artery, but the street has become the calling card, the shopping and entertainment center of the city.

After the Second World War, Ulica Piotrkowska fell into disrepair, and it was only from 1990 that it was gradually renovated and converted into a pedestrian zone. Urban planning, buildings, authorities, restaurants, clubs, which are located near Piotrkowska Street, are an important part of the cult atmosphere in Łódź. Today most and most important public offices, banks, shops, restaurants, many pubs and pubs are in the street. Numerous parties, festivals and state celebrations also take place here. Since 1999 Ulica Piotrkowska has been adorned with many bronze sculptures, which are reminiscent of famous Łódź personalities and form the so-called Gallery of the Great Łódźers ( Galeria Wielkich Łodzian ).
