Ulpius Marcellinus
Ulpius Marcellinus (his praenomen is not known) was a member of the Roman knighthood ( Eques ) living in the 2nd century AD .
Marcellinus came from Rome. A military diploma shows that in 144 AD he was the commander of the Ala Flavia Praetoria Singularium , which at that time was stationed in the province of Syria . The leadership of the Ala was probably his third military command within the Tres militiae .
Since his gentile name is Ulpius , his citizenship must go back to Trajan . His father was probably an imperial freedman, whose son then made it to the equester ordo .
