The Independence Square Kaunas (lit. Kauno Nepriklausomybės aikštė ) is a place in the second largest Lithuanian city of Kaunas . It is located in the Naujamiestis district , between Laisvės alėja and Gedimino gatvė streets . The square was built around 1850. In 1895 the Church of Archangel Michael was built in the center of the square. Kaunas Clinical Hospital is located in the southern part of the square .
