Under my thumb

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under My Thumb is a song written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards for the English rock band The Rolling Stones . The title first appeared on the 1966 album Aftermath .

song lyrics

In Under My Thumb , the singer describes his relationship with a young woman, which is characterized by mutual power games. This had previously had a dominant influence on him, but is now, as the singer claims, under his thumb ( to be under someone's thumb ). This is also due to the provocative statements like Ain't it the truth babe? or take it easy babe for expression.

Relationship with the Altamont Free Concert

While the song was being played at the Rolling Stones' Altamont Free Concert on December 6, 1969 at Altamont Speedway , California, one of the stewards stabbed the spectator Meredith Hunter , who was carrying a gun. The song was interrupted. The mood in the audience and among the Hells Angels' stewards had gotten out of hand due to alcohol and other drugs . The event was filmed and featured in the documentary Gimme Shelter .
