Meredith Hunter

Meredith Hunter (born October 24, 1951 in Berkeley , California , † December 6, 1969 in Alameda County , California) was an African-American youth who was stabbed to death during the Altamont Free Concert of the Rolling Stones at Altamont Speedway, California .

Hunter was injured with five knife stabs and kicks immediately in front of the stage by Alan Passaro, a member of the Hells Angels used as a security steward. Immediately beforehand, the drugged hunter had drawn a gun. He died on the way to the hospital. The Stones continued the concert.

Alan Passaro was charged with murder and acquitted by a court because the act was considered an act of self-defense . He was found dead in 1985 in Anderson Reservoir , an artificial lake in Santa Clara County .

The act was filmed by three camera teams. It is part of the documentary Gimme Shelter .

Meredith Hunter is buried on the Skyview Memorial Lawn in Vallejo, California .
