Accident category

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In accident research, the most serious consequences of a traffic accident are referred to as the accident category (in Germany ) or accident severity category (in Switzerland ) . In the local accident investigation , the accident category is shown on the physically or electronically managed accident card in the form of markings of different sizes.

Germany

There are six accident categories. Accident categories 1–3 refer to accidents with personal injury , categories 4–6 accidents with property damage . The criteria for dividing personal injuries into the categories can vary from country to country.

  • UK 1 : Accident with fatalities. A person who has been killed is someone who dies within 30 days of the consequences of a traffic accident.
  • UK 2 : Accident with seriously injured people. A seriously injured person is considered to be someone who has had an accident who required a hospital stay of more than 24 hours as a result of the accident and who was still alive 30 days after the accident.
  • UK 3 : accident with minor injuries. A person who has had a casualty is considered to be slightly injured and required medical treatment or hospitalization of less than 24 hours as a result of the accident.
  • UK 4 : Accident with serious property damage, in which a major administrative offense or a criminal offense can be assumed to be the cause and at least one vehicle must be towed from the scene of the accident. This also applies to accidents under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances.
  • UK 5 : Other accident with property damage without the effect of alcohol or other intoxicating substances without a criminal offense or a major administrative offense, regardless of whether all vehicles are ready to drive or whether they were criminal or a major offense and all vehicles were ready to drive.
  • UK 6 : Other accident with property damage, under the influence of alcohol or under the influence of other intoxicating substances, in which all vehicles are ready to drive.

Switzerland

In Switzerland, a distinction is made between the following accident severity categories:

  • U (G) : Accident with fatalities
  • U (SV) : Accident with seriously injured people
    • Accident with life-threatening injuries
    • Accident with serious injuries
  • U (LV) : Accident with minor injuries (accident with minor personal injury, i.e. accident with at least one slightly injured person, but no fatality or serious injury)
  • U (SS) : Accident with only property damage

The following derived categories are partially evaluated:

  • U (G + SV + LV) : Accident with personal injury
  • U (G + SV) : Accident with serious personal injury, d. H. Accident with at least one person killed or seriously injured
