The União Democrática Popular (UDP, dt. About: Democratic People's Association) is a Portuguese party with a Marxist-Leninist orientation.
It was founded in Portugal in the winter after the Carnation Revolution of April 25, 1974. It held its first congress on March 9, 1975 and was dominated by strong Maoist currents. In the parliamentary elections in Portugal in 1979 it still achieved a result of 2.18% (after 1.67% in 1976), but then it was able to gain fewer and fewer votes. In 1999 she played a key role in founding the Bloco de Esquerda , and since then has only appeared in public as a political association outside of the party alliance.
It publishes the party magazine A Comuna , which appears every three months both in print and as a download on its own website.
