Unibet Group plc is an online provider of sports betting , online poker , online casino , and bingo . The company with Swedish roots is owned by the Nordic OMX-listed company Unibet Group plc. The gross profit for 2011 was £ 154.4 million.

Unibet Group plc comprises the brands Unibet, Maria (bingo, casino and poker) and Kambi (sports betting service provider). Unibet has 6.7 million registered customers worldwide. In addition to the Nordic countries, the Netherlands, Belgium and France are among Unibet's most important markets.

Unibet was founded in 1997. In 1998 the company obtained a sports betting license in the UK and opened an office there. The first Unibet website appeared in 1999 in English and Swedish. Unibet Group Plc. was founded in 2000. Unibet obtained a betting license in Malta and opened an office there. The second version of the website went online in 2001 in 12 languages. Another revised website went online in 2003, for the first time also in German. Unibet was listed on the NASDAQ OMX Nordic Exchange in Stockholm in 2004. Supertoto and online poker were offered for the first time.

In 2005 Unibet took over the Belgian provider Mr.Bookmaker.com. In 2007 it was taken over by online bingo provider Maria Holdings. In 2008 it became a member of the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA), to which twelve providers in Europe belong. The main contents of the considerations were among others. the questions about how problems such as gambling addiction, illegal underage betting, data protection and money laundering can most effectively be counteracted. In 2011 Unibet announced the takeover of the Australian providers EurosportBet and EurosportPoker. In 2012 it took over Bet24 and the provider Betchoice. At the end of September the acquisition of Stan James was announced for a purchase value of 19 million British pounds.

Unibet offers online products in fully regulated states with local licenses. Currently these are Malta, Denmark, France, Belgium, Italy and Australia (as of November 2012).

Awards

Unibet was named Sports Betting Provider of the Year by the international gaming magazine eGaming Review in 2006, 2008 and 2009 and as Live Betting Provider of the Year in 2009.

At the “International Gaming Awards 2016”, Unibet was able to prevail in the “Socially Responsible Operator of the year” category. A price that should not be underestimated and which also indicates Unibet's commitment to get involved in matters of the common good.

Unibet Open

The Unibet Open are a live poker tournament series, the main event of which is usually an NL Texas Hol'dem poker tournament. The first Unibet Open took place in Warsaw in 2007, in 2008 the stations were Madrid, Milan and again Warsaw. In December 2012, the Unibet Open will take place outside of Europe for the first time: The tournament will take place on the occasion of the 5th anniversary on the Caribbean island of St. Maarten.

The greatest successes of German players were a 2nd place in each case: Nino Ryschawy won 101,000 euros in prize money in Prague in 2010, in the same year Andreas Hofmann received 89,350 euros in Valencia for the same placement.
