history

Foundation as ÖTSU Henndorf

On August 22, 1949, the ÖTSU Henndorf was founded by Josef Klee, Franz Wörndl and Josef Huber in the Gasthof Stoifl (Römerstein). At the founding meeting, the district inspector of the Gendarmerie, Erasmus Dießlbacher, was elected first chairman. According to the statutes of that time, you entered the 2nd class, which was the fourth highest Austrian division at the time. As no coach could be hired at the time due to a lack of finances, you could still see the team's lack of technology. However, this was balanced by enormous fighting and team spirit, whereby the "Red Lantern" could be given in the second year of the game.

In 1954, the team was relegated, but made it again the following year. In 1963 the team was back where it had started in 1949 - in the lowest division. In 1967 the long-awaited championship title of the 3rd class was won and thus nothing stood in the way of promotion to the 2nd class north. In the following season, the championship title could also be won in this class, which meant promotion to 1st class North.

Under player-coach Gerhard Wegrostek the championship title in the 1st class north was achieved in 1971 and the ÖTSU Henndorf became a "league club".

Promotion to the Regionalliga West

Just two years later (1973), under coach Hubert Reiter, he managed to win the championship title of the regional league and thus to move up to the second highest league in Austria, the Regionalliga West. So just 6 years after the championship title in the lowest league you were suddenly in the second highest league in Austria. After one season, however, you had to say goodbye to this league.

Great upheaval

Before the 1975/76 season there was a major upheaval in the team, as important pillars (e.g. Georg Friesenegger, Martin Dietmann, ...) hung up their football boots. As a result, you had to relegate to the national class this year. Since the upheaval had not yet been fully digested, in 1980 you had to move to 1st class north.

Through a reform in 1983, promotion to the 2nd National League North was achieved. In 1988 they rose again to the 1st regional league. In 1992, under coach Andreas Ausweger, the championship title in the 1st regional league was achieved again. A rise was denied to the Henndorfern, because the Regionalliga West were dissolved this year by a reform of the SFV.

Renaming to "Union Woerle Henndorf"

During the annual general meeting in 2008 the name of the association was renamed Union Woerle Henndorf.

In 2009 Union Woerle Henndorf celebrates its 60th anniversary. Furthermore, the Henndorf team have been playing in the highest Salzburg division for two decades and can rightly call themselves the "inventory" of this league.
