United States Hydrographic Office

The United States Hydrographic Office was an agency of the federal government of the United States of America that created and published nautical charts and books.

The Hydrographic Office was created by Act on June 21, 1866 and was initially part of the US Navy's Bureau of Navigation . In 1949 it became part of the Ministry of Defense as part of a reorganization . The facility was closed in July 1962 and was succeeded by the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO).
