The University of Malawi (English: University of Malawi ) was founded in 1964 as the first university in the South African state of Malawi . Its seat is the former capital Zomba . It is made up of five colleges spread across Zomba, Blantyre and Lilongwe.

  • Bunda College of Agriculture, Lilongwe
  • Chancellor College, Zomba
  • Kamuzu College of Nursing (one campus each in Blantyre and Lilongwe)
  • The Polytechnic, Blantyre
  • College of Medicine, Blantyre

The university had a total of 6,257 students in 2007, and 7,370 students in the 2011–2012 academic year.
