The University of Benin (UNIBEN for short) in Benin City , Nigeria is one of the largest universities in Nigeria.
It was founded in 1970 as the Institute of Technology . In July 1971 it was recognized as a university by the National Commission for Universities in Nigeria. After adding a few faculties, the university was called the University of Benin from April 1972. Since April 1, 1975 it has been a university in the federal state of Edo , most of the institutes are now located in Ugbowo .
Faculties
Between 1991 and 1994, Benin University experimented with a college system . As of 1994, the majority of the organization is regulated by faculties. Exceptions are colleges for medicine, dentistry and pediatric medicine.
