The University of Zakho ( Kurdish زانكۆی زاخۆ Zankoy Zaxo , German 'Universität Zaxo' ) is a state university in the city of Zaxo in the autonomous region of Kurdistan in Iraq .

The University of Zaxo was founded on July 8, 2010. It emerged from two departments (Education and Commerce) that were attached to Duhok University .

The total cost of building the new campus, with a total area of ​​19,059 m², was around 4.295 billion Iraqi dinars . In 2013 the university had approximately 2,600 undergraduate and 100 graduate students.

The university is a member of the Association of Arab Universities (AARU) and has concluded international cooperation agreements with several universities - for example with the University of Oldenburg (2013).

courses

The university offers its courses in the faculties of humanities , natural sciences and engineering . The majority of the courses in the three faculties are offered with Bachelor and Master degrees . The standard period of study for the bachelor's degree is four years. In addition, the university also offers the opportunity to do a doctorate in natural science courses . Due to the increasing oil production in the autonomous region of Kurdistan and Iraq in general, the Faculty of Engineering was founded in 2013 and the study of oil and natural gas technology was offered.
