Our Walter is a seven-part German television series by ZDF from 1974. The series was produced by the Protestant film production company Eikon . The premiere was on July 8, 1974. The director was Peter Schubert , the screenplay was written by Heiner Michel . The television series received the Adolf Grimme Prize for socially critical television series.

When her son Walter two and a half years old, a doctor tells the couple Zabel (played by Cordula Trantow and Thomas Bride with) that the boy at that time still as mongolism called Down syndrome has.

The television series portrays the life of Walter and his family over a period of twenty years. Life with a child with a disability is difficult at first. Kindergartens and schools reject the boy, and Walter has to be taught privately. The mother can no longer work in the family business because she has to look after her son. The father has to give up the shop, and Walter's younger sister Sabine feels neglected. Walter approaches strangers with skepticism . Over the years, however, the Zabels learn to deal with the situation, and Walter also learns to find his way around the world. Uncle Gerd is a great help, initially doing his alternative service in a home for people with disabilities and later specializing as a specialist in the treatment of children with intellectual disabilities. At the end of the series, Walter is 21 years old.

The series was released on June 2, 2006 as a double DVD with FSK age rating from 12 years and a total running time of 315 minutes in German (Dolby Digital 2.0).
