A vacuum unit is an actuator that is operated with the vacuum generated by an internal combustion engine in the intake system.

It is used, for example, for load-dependent adjustment of the ignition point in mechanically controlled ignitions of gasoline engines (see picture), for controlling the pressure valve ( wastegate ) on turbo-charged engines or for adjusting the turbine guide vanes in turbo -chargers with variable turbine geometry ("VTG chargers").
