location

The lower mill is located on a 70 meter long mill canal that branches off to the left of the Hilsbach.

history

The mill at the confluence of Hilsbach and Elsenz was built in 1795 as a municipal mill. At that time, the mill replaced the older Spitzmühle , which was once located on the site of today's Schlimm farm , and took over its name. The term Lower Mill then developed to differentiate it from the Upper Mill (formerly Siffringsche Mühle ).

In the tender for a new tenant in 1815, two grinding cycles and one peeling cycle were mentioned . The mill was driven by two water wheels with a covered hydraulic structure in a dust house. In the mill building there was also the miller's apartment with six rooms and a chamber and kitchen. In addition to a spacious cellar and storage facility, the property also included a barn, a stable for horses and cattle and four pig stalls. At that time, Hans Bachmann was named as the municipal miller on the Spitzmühle .

On January 4, 1868, the miller Jakob Friedrich Fränkle from Münzesheim acquired the property for 17,000 guilders. Later owners were the Müller Weickgenannt and Hecker, before the city of Eppingen brought the mill back into their possession in 1924.

The mill operation was stopped in the course of the 20th century, the course of the water required to drive the water wheels changed. The mill building was demolished in 2002 and replaced by a new building. Today only the historic residential building remains.
