Urchin Tracking Monitor

The Urchin Tracking Monitor (also called Urchin Tracking Module) is a process from Google Analytics to analyze user behavior on websites . It is based on several different cookies , each with different tasks. Through the combined evaluation of the individual cookies, precise statistics can be created, for example to determine how often a visitor visits a corresponding website, which pages were called up how often, how long they stayed on them and which navigation steps they carried out on the page .

The different cookies

Various cookies are used to analyze user behavior:

__utma unlimited This cookie contains information about when the visitor was on the site for the first time, how often they visited it and when they last accessed it.
__utmb until the end of the session This cookie contains a time stamp of when the visitor accessed the page. Together with __utmc, this cookie can provide information about the length of time the visitor stayed on a page.
__utmc 30 minutes This cookie contains a time stamp of when the visitor left the site. Together with __utmb, this cookie can provide information about the length of the visitor's stay on a page.
__utmk unlimited This cookie contains a hash value for all UTM cookies mentioned here.
__utmv unlimited This cookie is intended for individual content, can be freely assigned and is therefore used to control user-defined analyzes.
__utmx 2 years This cookie contains values ​​from the Google Website Optimizer.
__utmz 6 months This cookie contains information about where the visitor came from before they called up the page to be analyzed. It can contain information about search engines and the search terms entered there, for example, or where on earth the calling IP address is located.
