Vösgen

Vösgen is the diminutive of Voss (Low or Low German for fox ) .

The surname, primarily in East Westphalia , of Lippe origin, Vösgen ( earlier spelling also Vösschen, Vössjen ) stands for Füchschen ( little fox ).

Furthermore, Vösgen, especially in its earlier spelling Vössjen, is a modification of the Dutch word Vosje ( small Vos ), which in turn represents the diminutive of Vos ( in German: Fuchs ).

According to the NHV genealogy , which refers to the Salbuch of the State Archive in Detmold , the name Vösgen was first documented as occurring in Belle in 1780 . Furthermore, the name ( then Vösschen ) appears as an inscription on a body penitentiary built in Bellenberg in 1785.
