VSOP
The abbreviation VSOP is a predicate name for cognac , brandy or Armagnac , which is intended to signal the particularly old age and quality of these spirits. The acronym VSOP comes from English and is resolved with very superior old pale (German: “excellent, old and pale”) or very special old pale (German: “very particularly old and pale”).
Usual designations (sometimes also without "." And / or with spaces) are:

- VVSOP ( very, very superior old pale , dt. "Very excellent, old and pale") with a barrel storage of at least five years.
There are also other age predicate designations that are not all officially controlled, e.g. B. (with colloquial or meaning according to BNIC ):

- XO ( extra old ), Napoléon or Hors d'âge - Cognac, the youngest distillate of which is at least six years old.
