Kiéché (also: Kiéssé ) is a rural community in the Dogondoutchi department in Niger .

geography

Kiéché is located in the greater Sudan landscape and borders the neighboring state of Nigeria in the southeast . The neighboring communities in Niger are Dan-Kassari in the northeast, Koré Maïroua in the southwest and Dogondoutchi in the northwest. The municipality is divided into 21 administrative villages, 107 traditional villages, twelve hamlets and a camp. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village of Kiéché (also: Kiéssé).

The large, periodically water-bearing dry valley Dallol Maouri runs through the municipality in a north-south direction .

history

The rural community of Kiéché emerged as an administrative unit in the course of a nationwide administrative reform in 2002 from the southern part of the canton of Dogondoutchi.

population

At the 2001 census, Kiéché had 40,578 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 48,980.

politics

In the local elections in July 2004, Idi Issa Tondi ( PNDS-Tarayya ) was elected mayor.

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is located in the narrow zone along the border with Nigeria, which extends from Tounouga in the west to Malawa in the east and is used in irrigation farming for cash crops . National Road 1 runs through Kiéché and is part of the international Dakar-N'Djamena Highway .
