Dogonkiria (also: Dogon Kiria ) is a rural community in the Dogondoutchi department in Niger .

geography

Dogonkiria is located in the southern Sahel . The neighboring communities are Kourfeye Center in the north, Bagaroua in the east, Alléla in the southeast, Dan-Kassari in the south, Matankari in the southwest and Soucoucoutane in the west. The municipality is divided into 25 administrative villages, 121 traditional villages, six hamlets and six camps. The main town of the rural parish is the administrative village of Dogonkiria.

The large, periodically water-bearing dry valley Dallol Maouri runs through the far north of the municipality .

history

The rural municipality of Dogonkiria emerged as an administrative unit in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform from the northeastern part of the canton of Dogondoutchi. In June 2008, floods destroyed 92 houses and over three tons of food supplies. Over 500 residents were considered to be directly damaged.

population

At the 2001 census, Dogonkiria had 46,012 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 65,990.

Economy and Infrastructure

The community lies at the transition from the zone of rain-fed agriculture in the south to the zone of agropastoralism in the north. There is a cattle market in the village of Maïmakaïné. The market day is Thursday.
