Alléla is a rural municipality in the Birni-N'Konni department in Niger .

geography

Alléla lies at the transition from the Sudan to the Sahel zone and borders the neighboring state of Nigeria in the southwest . The neighboring communities in Niger are Dan-Kassari and Dogonkiria in the west, Bagaroua , Illéla and Tajaé in the north, Malbaza and Tsernaoua in the east and Bazaga in the southeast. The municipality is divided into 20 administrative villages, one traditional village and 32 hamlets. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village of Alléla (also: Alléla I).

history

The rural community Alléla emerged as an administrative unit in 2002 as part of a state-wide administrative reform from the western part of the canton of Birni-N'Konni.

population

At the 2001 census, Alléla had 32,031 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 52,196.

politics

Moumouni Bizo ( PNDS-Tarayya ) was elected mayor in the local elections in July 2004 .

Economy and Infrastructure

Most of the community is in a zone where irrigation farming is carried out. In the north it merges into the area in which rain- fed farming is the predominant form of livelihood. National Road 1 runs through Alléla and is part of the international Dakar-N'Djamena Highway .
