Bazaga (also: Bagaza ) is a rural community in the Birni-N'Konni department in Niger .

geography

Bazaga is located in the greater Sudan landscape and borders the neighboring state of Nigeria in the south . The neighboring communities in Niger are Alléla in the west and north and Birni-N'Konni in the east. The municipality is divided into 26 administrative villages and 15 hamlets. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village of Bazaga (also: Bagaza).

history

The rural community of Bazaga emerged as an administrative unit in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform from part of the canton of Birni-N'Konni.

population

At the 2001 census, Bazaga had 26,085 residents. At the 2012 census, the population was 37,571.

politics

In the local elections in July 2004, Mamane Garba ( PNDS-Tarayya ) was elected mayor.

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is located in the narrow zone along the border with Nigeria, which extends from Tounouga in the west to Malawa in the east and is used in irrigation farming for cash crops . National Road 1 runs through Bazaga and is part of the international Dakar-N'Djamena Highway .
