The Vat Group AG ( own spelling VAT Vakuumventile AG ) is an internationally active Swiss company for vacuum valves and related services in the semiconductor, display and solar sectors as well as in the industrial and research sector, based in Haag in the municipality of Sennwald in the canton of St. Gallen ( Switzerland). The products of the internationally active company are used, among other things, in semiconductor and flat screen production, glass and tool coating, metallurgy, surface analysis, high-energy physics, synchrotrons, laser technology and space simulation.

In 2015, VAT generated net sales of 411 million Swiss francs and employs around 1,200 people worldwide, more than 700 of them in Switzerland. Around a quarter of the staff works in research and development. Vat comprises the three business areas Valves (73% of net sales in 2015), Global Services (16% of net sales in 2015) and Industry (11% of net sales in 2015).

The Valves business segment is divided into individual valves (67% of net sales in 2015) and modules (6% of net sales in 2015). The Industry division consists of the two subsidiaries Comvat (membrane bellows) and Sysmec (manufacturer of mechanical components and assemblies). In 2015, according to VLSIresearch, Vat had a share of 41 percent of the global market for vacuum valves.

The company has production sites in Haag (Switzerland), Penang (Malaysia) and Arad (Romania) . The export share is 99 percent, with Asia with 40 percent and the USA with 37 percent being the most important markets, followed by Europe with 23 percent.

history

Siegfried Schertler founded the company in 1965 in Flawil, St. Gallen (Switzerland). The focus was initially on research. The company headquarters were later relocated to Haag in the municipality of Sennwald in the Rhine Valley (Switzerland). In 1988 the company entered the field of semiconductor technology. After the turn of the millennium, the company expanded into the flat screen and photovoltaic segments. In February 2014, Capvis and Partners Group jointly took over the VAT group. Since April 14, 2016 Vat is on the SIX Swiss Exchange listed .
