A VCub station in Bordeaux

VCub , also spelled V 3 , is a self-service bike rental service that was set up on February 20, 2010 in the Bordeaux Métropole municipal association . The name alludes to the abbreviation CUB for the name communauté urbaine de Bordeaux at the time.

background

The offer is part of public transport in the greater Bordeaux area and complements the tram and bus network of the transport company Transports Bordeaux Métropole (TBM). VCUB is operated by Keolis Bordeaux, a company in the Keolis Group , which in turn belongs to the French state railway SNCF .

The offer

There are 1700 bicycles at 172 stations, all of which are equipped with a card reader. 99 stations are located in the urban area of Bordeaux (approx. Every 300 to 500 meters), another 40 are distributed across other municipalities. 90% of the stations are near a tram stop, bus stop or train station. The service works with time cards from TBM or with bank cards. The first half hour is rent-free, then progressive billing takes place. A long-term loan is possible at special VCub + stations .

Ten new stations per year are planned until 2020.
