VDI 3491

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The VDI 3491 series of guidelines deals with test methods for measuring fine dust . The new guidelines in this series are bilingual (German / English); the respective German language version is binding. The VDI Air Pollution Control Commission is responsible for the guidelines .

content

The series of guidelines consists of sheets 1 to 16, which deal with various manufacturing processes for test aerosols . Sheet 1 contains the basics and an overview. Most of the sheets are currently (as of December 2018) in revision. The sheet with the oldest valid version is currently sheet 6 with the title Measuring Particles; Manufacturing process for test aerosols; Platinum Oxide Aerosol Generator in the December 1980 edition.

history

For the area of environmental measurement technology , the VDI Commission convened a particle measurement committee, whose task was to develop standards for the detection of dust contamination. This made it necessary to create binding standards for calibration in the laboratory for all of Germany in order to be able to compare the measured values from different areas of the country. As a result of the progress and further development of measurement methods, there was also a need for revision. An aerosol generator based on the condensation process developed by Sinclair and La Mer was first described in Sheet 4 and published as binding in December 1980. This process was later generally described as a process for the production of test aerosols according to the condensation principle. In the course of time there have also been new developments for many other processes. The revision of the VDI 3491 series of guidelines last began with sheet 1 (measurement of particles - manufacturing process for test aerosols - basics and overview), which appeared in July 2016 as a binding white print. Special problems arise when test aerosols produced in the laboratory have to be transported to another location for comparison (e.g. as part of a round robin test ). For this purpose, an attempt is being made to develop the new edition of VDI 3491 Part 6 (measurement of particles; manufacturing processes for test aerosols; transport and conditioning) as part of a project. The old edition is from December 1980 and has another title.
