history

The H8 series was a very powerful multi-purpose locomotive for the Finnish broad gauge. No. 575 from the H8 series was the first locomotive to be manufactured in the Lokomo works in Tampere. Some other machines were made at the Tampella factories in Tampere.

The H8 series had a maximum traffic speed of 95 km / h. The H8 pulled all Finnish passenger trains running over long distances.

VR series Hv1

In October 1942 the VR introduced a new designation system. There the locomotives previously designated as H8 were sorted into the new Hv1 series .

The Board did not put the Hv1 for longer than until the 1967th

The busiest route in Finland was the 160 km Helsinki –Tampere connection. It was covered in just under three hours. This included all supply stops and stops to let counter trains through.
