Vagabonds

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Vagabonds are a French breakdance group that was founded in Paris in 2000 by former members of the crew The Family .

Over the years, the composition of the vagabonds changed as some members of the early days decided to go their own way and instead joined young breakers.

The Vagabonds Crew is one of the most successful groups in the French breakdance scene and won the Battle of the Year in 2006 (comparable to winning a world championship).

history

At the end of the 1990s, the breakdance formation The Family from Paris was the most internationally successful group in France and took on a leading role in the local scene. Among the members were the then quite young b-boys Salah, Lamine, Momo and Laos. But they didn't like the strict hierarchy and the increasingly bad mood in the crew. That's why they left them and founded the Vagabonds together with the breakers Sim, Rachid, Hajar and Ilaria in 2000. The new Parisian group quickly drew attention to itself through its fresh and energetic appearance on jams and through various successes in battles in the French scene.

In 2001 the Vagabonds just missed qualifying for the International Battle of the Year (BOTY) in Germany in the final of the Battle of the Year France in front of several thousand spectators against the Wanted Posse in one of the most exciting battles in breakdance history. With some newcomers (e.g. Nono) they finally made it in 2002 by winning against the Pockemon crew at the Battle of the Year France. At the International Battle of the Year in Braunschweig they moved into the final battle after a show lasting almost 12 minutes, for which they won the title “Best Show”. However, they were subject to the Korean group "Expression" there.

In the years that followed, the Vagabonds took part in crew battles less often and won no major title. In addition, almost all of the first generation breakers left the group to look for new challenges. So the Vagabonds formed anew with young b-boys and concentrated again on battles.

In 2006 they finally won the Battle of the Year France in front of over 6500 spectators and then won the International BOTY in the final battle against the defending champion Last for One from South Korea. Since they were also able to win the title of “Best Show”, they are the first crew in the history of the BOTY to win both awards at once.

In 2007, the Vagabonds did not defend their title at the International BOTY, but toured with their stage show Alien through France, Tunisia and Italy.

In 2008 the Vagabonds again took part in major battles such as the B-Boy Unit France. At the UK B-Boy Championships Europe, the qualification for the World Finals in London, as part of the International Breakdance Event in Heerlen, they failed in the final against the Dutch crew Rugged Solutions .
