Security number

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Swiss security number , or VALOR for short, is a unique identification number in Switzerland for listed (exchange-listed) securities and financial instruments and has a similar purpose as the security identification number (WKN) on the German market.

Award procedure

The security number is a numerical code, the sequence of digits has no special structure. When assigning a new security number, the next number from the corresponding list is simply assigned. The number does not provide any indication of the type of instrument concerned. The security number forms part of the Swiss ISIN , with the ISIN then starting with CH or XT.

use

The security number can be used to identify a financial instrument for a variety of purposes: In general, a security number is assigned to every type of financial instrument that meets the allocation provisions. It can be used together with the market identification code (MIC) and the currency code to uniquely identify a traded instrument, as well as for transaction reporting and inventory management.

In Switzerland and Liechtenstein, the security number is the most important identifier for the Swiss Value Chain and serves as the main identifier for financial institutions in the entire region and beyond.

etymology

The word Valor means “security” in German. The plural of Valor in German is Valoren. In English-speaking countries, the terms “VALOR” and “VALOREN” are sometimes used indiscriminately.

Registration authority

The security number is issued by SIX Financial Information .
