Van den wapen Kristi
Van den wapen Kristi is a Low German passion poem from the 15th century that is used for devotion. The piece has come down to us in fragment 22 of the Braunschweig City Library .
The poem comprises seven stanzas, the actual text is preceded by an incomplete, rhymed prayer of repentance. The instruments of suffering are praised in three stanzas, the center of which is the titulus with the inscription INRI . The titulus is represented with an emerald-colored cross. Then the crucifixion of Christ is narrated, as well as the burial and the descent of Christ into the underworld . Christ is deliberately portrayed heroically.
