Vaqueros de Ixtlán is a football club based in the city of Ixtlán del Río in the Mexican state of Nayarit .

history

The association was founded in 2004. The Vaqueros ( Spanish for cowboys ) were represented in the third-class Segunda División during the four seasons between 2005/06 and 2008/09 , where they were assigned to the Zona Occidente for the first three years and, after the league reform of 2008, the 2008 / 09 in the Liga de Premier de Ascenso .

The club achieved their best placings in the 2010/11 season, when they finished second in the North Group in both the Apertura 2010 (first round) and in the Clausura 2011 (second round) and thus - for the first time after the Clausura 2008, when they had finished third in their group - qualified for the play-off championship finals. After they failed in the quarter-finals in 2008 against the later promoted Pachuca Juniors , they lost in the 2010/11 season, first in the round of 16 and then in the quarter-finals, each against Cruz Azul Jasso .

In the same 2010/11 season, their B-Team won the championship of the fourth-rate Tercera División .

After the league reform of the Segunda División in summer 2011 and the reduction of its participants to 32 teams, the club lost its place in the third division and has since been only represented in the Tercera División, where the first team of the Vaqueros currently (2012/13 season) assigned to group X.
