Splenic vein

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
the relationship of the splenic vein and its union with the superior mesenteric vein is shown.

The splenic vein (also known as the lineal vein or splenic vein ) is the blood vessel that drains blood from the spleen . It also receives the pancreatic veins , which drain the venous blood from the body and tail of the pancreas .

It runs together with the splenic artery along the upper edge of the pancreas and then joins the superior mesenteric vein to form the portal vein . Unlike the retroperitoneal splenic artery, the splenic vein is intraperitoneal.
