The complex of the former Fürstenfeld monastery and today's event forum

The Fürstenfeld event forum is today one of the most important cultural centers in Bavaria with over 300,000 visitors per year.

history

As early as the 1960s, there was discussion in Fürstenfeldbruck about the insufficient space available for cultural events. Concrete discussions began in 1974 about building a new multi-purpose hall. In March 1979 the city of Fürstenfeldbruck bought the economic buildings of the former Cistercian Abbey of Fürstenfeld monastery, including 22 hectares of land, from the Wittelsbach Compensation Fund for around seven million German marks. But it would take more than 20 years before the vision of a modern culture and leisure center including a city hall on historical ground was fulfilled. In October 1985, after several attempts, a conclusive concept was available - the costs of around 57 million DM, however, raised new problems. This was followed by an agreement on a section solution in 1986, refusal to approve the financing in 1988, changes to the concept and renewed building approval in 1989. Construction freezes again after the municipal elections in 1990. In 1992 the project was "finally" stopped and the contracts with architects and engineers terminated.

On the night of November 28-29, 1993, the upper floor of House 12 fell victim to the flames. With the money from the fire insurance and unexpected government funding, a new overall concept was commissioned. In March 1994 the new usage concept was approved. In 1995 and 1996 the plans were concretized and an input plan was drawn up.

On April 22, 1997, a DM 40 million project was launched by the city council with 31 votes to 8. The groundbreaking ceremony took place almost 25 years after the first talks on November 13, 1998. The official opening was on October 5, 2001. The guests of honor and speakers were the then Bavarian Prime Minister Edmund Stoiber , the then District Administrator Thomas Karmasin and the then 1st Mayor the city of Fürstenfeldbruck Sepp Kellerer present.
