The Association of Osteopaths Germany e. V. (VOD) was founded in 1994 in Wiesbaden as the representative of the German osteopaths .

The federal association essentially pursues three goals:

  • He works for the legal recognition of the osteopath as an independent profession.
  • He provides information about osteopathy, provides information and operates quality assurance.
  • He passes on osteopaths to patients.

According to its own information, the association has over 4,300 members.

At the European level, the VOD represents German osteopaths at the European Federation of Osteopaths (EFO) and the Forum for Osteopathic Regulation in Europe (FORE). Another component of the European work of the VOD is the objective of harmonizing the osteopathy training standards. The preparations for this take place in the European Committee for Standardization (CEN).

In 2009, the VOD was accepted as a full member of the global Osteopathic International Alliance (OIA) and also represents German osteopaths in this organization.

With the DO - German Journal for Osteopathy , the VOD has its own organ, which is published four times a year by Thieme Verlag.
