Displacement breeding

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Displacement breeding or displacement crossing (also English. Upgrading ) replaced in a population of unwanted features by others or even changed the entire breed standard , then, is a Umzüchtung . The pure culture is deliberately interrupted and genetic material of other races completed.

In the case of displacement breeding, animals of other races can be crossed in certain rotations with a certain regularity ( immigration ) until the undesired trait has been suppressed (cf. also breeding # rotational crossing ).

For such an upgrade, the immigration rate of the new breed (s) must be well over 10 percent; If, on the other hand, the immigration rate does not exceed the ten percent threshold, it is "only" a so-called refinement cross . From these parameters it can also be seen that the transition from grafting to displacement breeding (and vice versa) can be fluid.
