Historic Bicycles Association
The association “Historic Bicycles e. V. “ is an association of collectors of historical bicycles .
The association was founded in 1997. In December 2018 it had over 600 members from 16 countries.
Tasks of the association
The association has set itself the following tasks:
- Promoting and maintaining cycling culture ;
- Research, documentation and dissemination of the history of the development of the bicycle, the bicycle industry, cycling and their effects;
- Assistance to collectors of related objects, documents and other items, as well as their preservation and presentation;
- Promote the idea of cycling.
activities
The association publishes the scientific journal “Der Knochenschüttler” twice a year. Regular events take place twice a year: in August the “Velocipediade” association meeting at different locations with lectures, a collectors' market and trips on historical bicycles; in February the “winter meeting”, which always takes place in Erfurt and serves to exchange ideas on predetermined topics.
With the Velopedia website , the association has been offering an online archive with documents on the history of the bicycle since 2019 .
