Association of Swiss Librarians
The Association of Swiss Librarians (VSB) was founded in 1897. It was at the same time the association of Swiss libraries of all sizes and types and the professional association of library staff. From 1992 it was called the Association of Libraries and Librarians in Switzerland (BBS).
With over a hundred years of existence, the BBS was, according to the library scientist Robert Barth, the oldest library association on the European continent with an uninterrupted history. On January 1, 2008, the BBS and the Swiss Association for Documentation (SVD) merged to form Library Information Switzerland (BIS).
