Association of German opera choirs and stage dancers

The Association of German Opera Choirs and Stage Dancers eV (VdO) is a professional association and trade union for the members of the opera choirs and dance groups of the German theaters. According to the statutes, it pursues the purpose of representing the cultural, social, legal and economic interests, including performance protection, of its members and promoting the next generation as well as helping with all issues arising with the job description.

The association was founded in 1959 on the initiative of Walter Kane in Düsseldorf and is the successor organization to the choral singers 'and dancers' association that was forcibly dissolved in the Third Reich. Today it has a total of around 4,000 members (as of December 2010). She is u. a. represented on the board of directors of the pension fund of the German stages (VddB) and on the advisory board of the society for the exploitation of ancillary copyrights (GVL) . It is also a tariff partner of the German Stage Association (DBV) .

The association is the publisher of the bi-monthly journal Oper & Tanz .
