Association for Jewish Studies

The Association for Jewish Studies is an association of scientists and institutions that work in the field of Jewish religion , history and culture.

Goal setting

The institution, founded in 1996 at the University of Potsdam , represents the disciplines of Jewish studies and Jewish studies at academic educational, cultural and scientific institutions in Germany and abroad as a professional association . The association has set itself the goal of anchoring Jewish studies and Jewish studies more firmly within European universities and offering the researchers involved a forum for scientific discourse.

The magazine founded by Prof. Manfred Voigts appeared from 1997 to 2003 as an internal newsletter under the title “VJS-Nachrichten. Information sheet of the Association for Jewish Studies e. V. ". Between 2004 and 2009, Nathanael Riemer and Alexander Dubrau built the newsletter for the magazine under the new title “PaRDeS. Journal of the Association for Jewish Studies ”. PaRDeS has been published by Rebekka Denz and Grażyna Jurewicz since 2010 . Nathanael Riemer publishes a series of monographs by the Association for Jewish Studies under the title “Pri ha-Pardes” (Hebrew: fruits of the orchard) .
