Transfiguration Monastery (Uhornyky)

The Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior ( Ukrainian Угорницький Спасо-Преображенський монастир Uhornyzkyj Spasso-Preobrazhenskyj monastyr ) is a monastery of the Western Orthodox Church of Ukraine in Uhornyky in the Western Ukraine .

history

The monastery existed in 1561 with Orthodox monks. At the beginning of the 17th century, a new church and new buildings were built by Adam Balaban with the support of his brother Isaiah Balaban , the archimandrite of Derman Monastery. Later owner was the Starost Alexander Balaban. At that time there were probably up to 50 monks living there.

In 1710 the monastery became part of the United Greek Catholic Church . In 1752 it was moved to Babjanka. In 1811 there were still two monks living there. In 1819 it was attached to the Butschatsch Monastery.

The monastery has been rebuilt since 1999 and reopened in 2004 by the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church .

In 2010, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate founded a St. Michael's monastery at what will later be the site of the old monastery in Babjanka.
