Missing persons picture lists

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The missing persons picture lists were created by the tracing service of the German Red Cross from 1956 in the Federal Republic of Germany and should serve to clarify the fate of German military persons who disappeared in the Second World War . The volumes contained 1.4 million personal entries (900,000 of them with photos) on over 70,000 pages. In 1961, the picture lists with buses were also used for inter-regional survey meetings.

A total of 187 volumes contained personal information. There were 135 main volumes with the persons registered between 1950 and 1957, 39 volumes of the 1st addendum (subsequent registration 1958/59) and 13 volumes of the 2nd addendum (subsequent registration 1960/66).

5 volumes of master directories , 5 volumes of unit frames and 2 volumes of divisional fates , a total of 199 volumes, were used to provide an overview and indexing of these picture lists .

In addition, between 1962 and 1968, the German Red Cross published 26 volumes on German civilian missing persons during the Second World War and the post-war period (civilian missing persons lists). These did not contain any pictures.
