Life
Veronika was born as Giovanna Negri in the middle of the 15th century in the village of Binasco near Milan to poor, devout parents. She did not receive any schooling. Although she was penniless, after long requests she was accepted as a lay sister in the Santa Marta monastery at the age of 22. There she carried out the work assigned to her with great care. She was regularly sent on petitions for the needs of the monastery and the poor. She was distinguished by religious seriousness, strict discipline and mystical visions . Probably prompted by such a vision, she made a pilgrimage to Rome and was welcomed by Pope Alexander VI. received benevolently. When she died, the people celebrated her like a saint.
Adoration
In 1517 Pope Leo X allowed her home monastery to venerate her as blessed. Clement X extended this permission to the Augustinian religious family in 1672. Her feast day is January 13th.
